Tolerances

12% total defects; Provided, including 10% for permanent defects; or 7% for very serious damage, including 5% for very serious damage by permanent defects and 3% for decay.

Good Delivery Guidelines:
15% total, including 8% very serious damage, including 5% decay

Common Defects:

Damage by:

(a) Creasing when it materially weakens the skin, or extends over more than one-third of the fruit surface.

(b) Dryness or mushy condition when affecting all segments more than 1/8 inch at stem end, or the equivalent of this amount, by volume, when occurring in other portions of the fruit.

(c) Skin breakdown when aggregating more than a circle 1/2 inch in diameter.

(d) Sunburn, when skin is flattened, dry, darkened, or hard and the affected area exceeds 25% of the fruit surface.

(e) Bruising when segment walls are collapsed, or albedo and juice sacs are ruptured (Always report as serious damage).

 

Serious damage by:

(a) Creasing when it seriously weakens the skin, or extends over more than one-half of the fruit surface.

(b) Dryness or mushy condition when affecting all segments more than 1/4 inch at stem end, or the equivalent of this amount, by volume, when occurring in other portions of the fruit.

(c) Skin breakdown when aggregating more than a circle 3/4 inch in diameter.

(d) Sunburn, when skin is hard and affecting more than 33% of the fruit surface.

(e) Bruising when segment walls are collapsed, or albedo and juice sacs are ruptured.
