Tolerances

10% total defects, including 5% for serious damage, including 1% for soft or wet decay affecting the curd or butt.

 

Good Delivery Guidelines:
15% total, including 8% serious damage, including 3% decay

Common Defects:

Damage by:

(a) Bruises when dark brown or darker when the affected area exceeds 5/8 inch in diameter and as serious damage when the area affected exceeds 1-1/4 inches on a cauliflower 6 inches in diameter (correspondingly lesser or greater areas on smaller or larger heads).

(b) Dark brown discoloration when dark brown or black spots when a single spot exceeds 5/8 inch in diameter.

(c) Cuts when exceeding 5/8 inch in diameter.

(d) Fuzziness when more than one-third of the head has a distinctly fuzzy appearance.

(e) Mold when any single spot exceeds 1/8 inch in diameter or if any spots aggregate more than 3/8 inch in diameter.

(f) Ricey when the curd has an abnormally rough and granular appearance and more than 25% of the surface is affected.

 

Serious damage by:

(a) Bruises when the area affected exceeds 1-1/4 inches on a cauliflower 6 inches in diameter (correspondingly lesser or greater areas on smaller or larger heads).

(b) Dark brown discoloration when dark brown or black spots when a single spot exceeds 1-1/4 inches in diameter.

(c) Cuts when exceeding 1 inch in diameter.

(d) Fuzziness when more than two-thirds of the head has a distinctly fuzzy appearance.

(e) Mold when any single spot exceeds 3/8 inch in diameter or if any spots aggregate more than 5/8 inch in diameter.

(f) Ricey when the curd has an abnormally rough and granular appearance and more than 50% of the surface is affected.
