Tolerances
10% may fail to meet the trimming requirement. 10% total defects, including 5% for serious damage, including 1% decay.
Good Delivery Guidelines:
15% total, including 8% serious damage, including 3% decay
Common Defects:
Damage by:
(a) Broken tips, when over 1/8 inch in diameter.
(b) Insect injury when, shallow insect eaten areas over 1/4 inch in diameter or 2 or more shallow areas aggregating 3/8 inch in diameter on the upper portion of the stalk. Or when insect scars on the white portion of the stalk are over 3/4 inch in diameter.
(c) Spreading when, more than slightly spread.
Serious damage by:
(a) Broken tips, when over 1/4 inch in diameter. Or when stalks are broken.
(b) Insect injury when, shallow insect eaten areas over 3/8 inch in diameter or 2 or more shallow areas aggregating 1/2 inch in diameter on the upper portion of the stalk.
(c) Spreading when, more than badly spread.
